【摘要】:Thistestmethodcanbeusedtoevaluateunusedmixedbedionexchangematerialsforconformancetospecifications.Whenarepresentativesampleofthemixedbedcanbeobtainedfromanoperatingunit,thistestmethodcanbeusedtoevaluatetheregenerationefficiencybycomparisonwiththesamedataobtainedwithnewmaterialfromthesamemanufacturedlots,orretainedsamplesofthein-placeproducts.Thistestmethodprovidesforthecalculationofcapacityintermsofthevolumeofwatertreatedtoaconductivityendpoint.Thetestmethodaswrittenassumesthatthecationexchangematerialhasbeenregeneratedtothehydrogenformwithacidandtheanionexchangematerialhasbeenregeneratedwithalkalitothehydroxideorfree-baseform.Incertainapplicationsacationexchangematerialinthepotassium,ammonium,orothermonovalentformmaybeencountered.SuchmaterialsmaybetestedfollowingthisprocedureusingTestWaterA(TestMethodsD1782)astheinfluentandsubstitutingthehardnessendpoint(TestMethodsD1782)fortheendpointsprescribedherein.Inmostcasestheproducttestedwillbeproperlymixedandwillcontainthecorrectproportionsofanionandcationexchangematerials.However,ifthepHaswellastheconductivityoftheeffluentismeasured,thetestmethodwillindicatewhichofthecomponentsispresentinexcess;anacideffluentatbreakthroughindicatinganexcessofregeneratedcationexchangegroupsandanalkalineeffluentanexcessofregeneratedanionexchangegroups.Insuchcasesthevolumesofthetwocomponentsobtainedinthefinalbackwashwillindicatewhetherthisimbalancearisesfromimproperregenerationorfromanimproperratioofthetwocomponents.Itshouldbenoted,however,thatnotallunitsarechargedwithabalancedratioofanion-exchangingandcation-exchanginggroups.Hence,whereverpossible,afieldsampleshouldbeevaluatedincomparisonwitharetainedsampleoftheoriginalcharge.Thistestmethodprovidesforthecalculationofcapacityoneitherawetweightbasisoravolumebasis.Althoughsuchmaterialsarenormallyboughtandsoldintermsofcubicfeet,theyareactuallypackagedinwetpounds.Therefore,itisthecapacityonawetweightbasisthatisdirectlycorrelatabletotheamountofmaterialinagivenshipment.Calculationofavolumecapacityisbasedontheexhausted,separatedvolumeofthecomponentsafterbackwashingandresettlingthebed.Thisvolumeischosenbecauseitisdifficult,ifnotimpossible,topackasampleofregeneratedmixedbedmaterialinasmall-diametercolumnreproducibly.Thistestmethodmaybeusedtotestmixedbedresincartridges.Insuchcasestheflowrateoftestwaterandthefrequencyofsamplingmustbevariedtocompensatefortheapproximatevolumeofresininthetestsample.Thetestaswrittenassumesaresinvolumeofapproximately330mL.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationoftheperformanceofparticulatemixedbedionexchangematerialsintheregeneratedformwhenusedfordeionization.Itisintendedforuseintestingunusedmixedbedmaterialsandsamplesofregeneratedmixedbedsfromoperatingunits.1.2Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
